Dr. Ted Asay is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 35 years of experience working with adults, adolescents and couples experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship and family difficulties, and work or school related challenges. He also enjoys working with couples and individuals who are experiencing difficulties related to spiritual or religious issues.
He believes that effective therapy begins with developing a trusting, collaborative relationship where clients feel free to speak openly and honestly about their thoughts, feelings and concerns. He works together with clients to understand the factors contributing to their difficulties while developing practical strategies and insights that reduce distress and promote a more meaningful, satisfying life.
Dr. Asay has extensive experience providing short-term therapy, including cognitive-behavioral techniques, as well as longer-term psychodynamic psychotherapy. The treatment approach will be tailored to the client’s individual needs and the nature of their concerns, along with their personal preferences and goals.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Asay has many years of experience teaching and supervising graduate student therapists as a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. This work has allowed him to remain actively engaged with advances in psychotherapy while helping to train beginning psychotherapists.
He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Jerry M. Lewis Mental Health Research Foundation and has published articles and book chapters in the area of psychotherapy effectiveness and outcome.
